Details:The new Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Program and Training Center is changing the landscape of downtown Kalamazoo quite literally, with rooftop vegetation
and water preservation systems that capture stormwater runoff and help create and replenish the surrounding landscapes, wetlands, and trails. The design creates
unique and aesthetically pleasing green spaces while saving on heating and cooling costs, reducing the load on municipal stormwater systems, and impact building
acoustics. Stormwater from sloping rooflines charges two creeks that flow to a pond, slowly returning water to the headwaters of a neighboring watershed. Contractors
Mechanical and the architects, engineers, contractors, landscape architects, environmental engineers, botanists, and horticultural experts all collaborated to ensure
the interdependent system performs as designed. Contractors Mechanical also provided design-build services for the domestic water supply, sanitary piping, and gas
piping systems.
