Details: This adaptive-reuse project transformed the historic Globe Knitting Works factory in downtown Grand Rapids into unique, urban living space. The former manufacturing facility was comprised of a series of buildings constructed between 1903 and 1928. Contractors Mechanical constructed plumbing and hydronic heating systems with individually controlled central heating for the 7-story building’s 109 apartment units and ground-floor retail space. The unique character of the Globe Apartments building required custom plumbing systems and energy-efficient solutions for heating the lofty apartments, which feature 11-foot ceilings and seven-foot windows. |
